Two Longhorns Projected To Be First-Round Picks In Latest ESPN Mock Draft

Success both on and off the field is finally within reach for the Texas Longhorns after their impressive 2023 season culminated in a Big 12 victory and a near advancement to the title game. As they gear up for the 2024 NFL Draft, there’s a sense of anticipation unlike any they’ve experienced in recent memory. Unlike previous years where they’d be content with a few players drafted, this year promises to deliver one of their most promising draft classes in years. ESPN’s Field Yates predicts that two Texas players could even be selected in the first round.

Denver Broncos free agent target: Cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. - Mile High Report

Unsurprisingly, defensive tackle Byron Murphy II leads the charge for Texas, expected to be chosen as the 13th overall pick by the Las Vegas Raiders. While not a top priority for the Raiders who are eyeing quarterbacks and offensive linemen, Yates argues that Murphy’s talent is simply too impressive to overlook. His exceptional performance in the 2023 season, particularly as a pass rusher and run defender, makes him a valuable addition to the Raiders’ defensive front.

Following Murphy, wide receiver Adoni Mitchell is projected to be selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the last pick of the first round. Mitchell’s addition would address the Chiefs’ well-known receiver deficiencies, offering them a versatile player with strong route-running skills and a knack for scoring touchdowns. With his size and athleticism, Mitchell could complement Patrick Mahomes’ passing game effectively, adding another dimension to the Super Bowl champions’ offense.
