The Norris Trophy, named after James Norris, is presented annually to the defenseman who exhibits the most outstanding all-around skills in the position over the course of the season.

The recipient of this honor is determined through a vote by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA) at the conclusion of the regular season. Makar concluded the regular season with 77 games played, tallying 21 goals and 69 assists for a total of 90 points. This marks his fourth consecutive nomination for the award, including the 2023-24 season. Makar previously claimed the Norris Trophy in the 2021-22 season.

Joining Makar as finalists are Roman Josi from the Nashville Predators, and the frontrunner according to betting odds, Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks.
