Gophers targeting a pair of mid-major transfers in portal

Femi Odukale, a guard from New Mexico State, and Trey Edmonds, a center from UTSA, have caught the attention of the Gophers’ transfer portal.

Here are some key details about them:

Femi Odukale, G, New Mexico State

Odukale, standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 205 pounds, was reportedly spotted on campus earlier this week, although it’s unclear if the visit was official or unofficial. During his time in Las Cruces last season, he boasted averages of 10.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.

Starting in 16 out of 26 games under first-year head coach Jason Hooten, Odukale, a native of Brooklyn, New York, initially played two seasons for Pittsburgh before transferring to Seton Hall for one season and then making his way to the Aggies.

Given that the roster currently only features redshirt sophomore Kayden Betts and incoming freshman Grayson Grove as the sole pure forward/wings, Odukale would bring valuable veteran depth as a sizable guard capable of defending positions one through four and facilitating plays from various spots on the court.

Trey Edmonds, F, UTSA

Edmonds is set to make an official visit to the Gophers program on May 4-5, as reported by The Portal Report on Twitter. Standing at 6-foot-10, he’s a big man entering the transfer process for the second time in his college career, originally starting at Utah Tech.

During his inaugural year with the Road Runners, he averaged 7.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, starting in all 32 contests. Hailing from Aurora, Colorado, Edmonds struggled to find his footing at Utah Tech, starting just one game and averaging fewer than three points in each of his first two seasons.

However, Gophers head coach Ben Johnson and his staff witnessed Edmonds’ potential firsthand when he scored 12 points against Minnesota in a non-conference matchup last November. With two seasons of college eligibility remaining, Edmonds would add depth to the Gophers’ frontcourt, alongside Canisius transfer Frank Mitchell and returning players Dawson Garcia and Parker Fox, likely serving as a reserve big man for the team.
