Collingwood captain Darcy Moore’s touching Anzac Day speech receives huge response from crowd, supporters

Collingwood captain Darcy Moore received widespread acclaim following an emotional post-match Anzac Day speech that resonated deeply with the MCG crowd.

The Magpies had just drawn in a thrilling match against Essendon during their annual Anzac Day fixture, with Bombers forward Kyle Langford narrowly missing a game-winning shot in the final moments.

While Essendon’s Zach Merrett received the Anzac Day Medal for his impressive 31 possessions, it was Moore who captured the spotlight after the game.

Expressing gratitude for the crowd’s support, Moore began by recognizing the contributions of Australia’s First Nations servicemen and women.

He proceeded to express gratitude to Essendon for sharing the day with Collingwood, emphasizing the privilege of playing against them.

However, his speech then took on a more serious tone as he highlighted one of the most important aspects of the day. Moore emphasized the significance of raising funds for the Anzac Appeal, which supports crucial services for returned servicemen and women as they transition back to civilian life.

Moore highlighted that issues such as homelessness, acute mental health challenges, family support, and social connections are significant concerns for veterans returning to civilian life. He emphasized the vital role played by the RSL (Returned and Services League) in providing comprehensive support to these veterans upon their return home.

“By purchasing a pin or contributing to the tin rattle today, you’re not only saying thank you to veterans but also helping to provide these essential wrap-around services.”

Moore emphasized the significance of the day as an opportunity to support veterans and their needs. Social media users following Collingwood’s account were quick to praise the captain’s heartfelt remarks.

“Despite my general dislike of Collingwood, I have to agree that he’s a genuinely decent young man. You’ve got to love him,” commented one user.

“Another outstanding speech from our captain, truly incredible,” remarked another.

“Future CEO of AFL. He speaks better than most and consistently hits the mark. His messages are concise and impactful,” applauded another user, highlighting Moore’s eloquence and ability to convey meaningful messages.
