Huge boost for Packers as they reportedly confirm another key signing

The Green Bay Packers have confirmed the addition of cornerback Gemon Green to their roster. Green, who intermittently started for the Michigan Wolverines between 2020 and 2022, primarily operated as an outside cornerback during his time with the team, accumulating 1,109 snaps in that role compared to just 95 snaps in the slot. Throughout his college career, he tallied 68 total tackles, one interception, and 13 pass deflections.

In the lead-up to the 2023 NFL Draft, Green did not receive an invitation to the combine. However, he participated in Michigan’s pro day, where he measured at 6’1” and 183 pounds. During the pro day, he clocked a 40-yard dash time of 4.53 seconds, achieved a 37.5” vertical jump, recorded a shuttle time of 4.51 seconds, and completed the three-cone drill in 7.13 seconds, as reported by NFL Draft Scout.

Following the draft, Green joined the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent but held onto a practice squad position for just around 24 hours during the cutdown period. Since August, he has been without a team, until now, when he seized the opportunity with the Packers.

During his preseason stint with the Giants, Green saw action both as an outside cornerback (34 snaps) and a slot corner (26 snaps). Additionally, he contributed to the kick-off team and played as a gunner on the punt team.

With a lineup featuring Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Corey Ballentine, and Robert Rochell at the cornerback position, Green’s signing likely positions him to compete for a practice squad spot. It’s anticipated to be a challenging task for him to secure a spot on the 53-man roster, especially considering the possibility of the team adding another cornerback in this month’s draft.
