‘Huge boost’ Derry City welcome back duo but Pat Hoban set to miss Dundalk reunion

Pat Hoban appears unlikely to face his former club Dundalk, while Derry City anticipates the return of both Ben Doherty and Cameron Dunmigan for Friday’s match against the Lilywhites at 7.45 pm. Hoban sustained an injury during Monday’s goalless draw with league leaders Shelbourne, prompting City boss Ruaidhri Higgins to acknowledge his doubtful status for the upcoming fixture against his former team.

Higgins commented on Hoban’s situation, emphasizing his resilience and team-oriented approach, but also highlighting the need for his recovery given the early stage of the season. Despite Hoban’s potential absence, the return of Doherty and Dunmigan offers a timely boost for Derry City, especially as they aim to improve upon recent results, which have seen them gather just one point from their last three matches.

Acknowledging the challenging run of form, Higgins expressed confidence in his squad’s abilities and emphasized the importance of moving forward positively. Despite Dundalk’s struggles this season, Higgins expects a tough encounter and urges his team to approach the match with determination and the support of their fans at home.

“We must initiate the game with intensity, hoping to spark a positive response from the crowd. It’s a reciprocal relationship; sometimes, we need their energy to lift us, but we have to provide something worthy of their support. If we demonstrate effort and commitment, our fans will always rally behind us.”
