Huge boost for Avalanche as they reportedly confirm contract extension of another vital player

On Wednesday, the Colorado Avalanche declared that they had extended forward Chris Wagner’s contract for one year, ensuring his presence with the team until the 2024-2025 season.

The 32-year-old forward has divided his time during the 2023-24 season between the Avalanche and their AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles. In his 10 games with the Avalanche, Wagner has contributed a goal and an assist, along with accumulating seven penalty minutes. Meanwhile, in 17 games with the AHL’s Eagles, he has tallied four goals and four assists, totaling eight points.

Over his decade-long NHL career, Wagner has amassed 38 goals and 27 assists, totaling 65 points in 370 games, playing for teams such as the Avalanche, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders, and Anaheim Ducks.

Drafted in the fifth round by Anaheim in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Wagner spent two seasons at Colgate University. His college career peaked in the 2011-12 season, where he notched 17 goals and 34 assists for 51 points in 38 games. He opted to end his college tenure early and inked a three-year contract with the Ducks, subsequently spending several seasons in their system.

Currently, the Avalanche hold a record of 47-22-6, accumulating 100 points, positioning them second in the Central Division, trailing the Dallas Stars by three points for the division’s top spot. They boast a strong recent form with a 7-2-1 record in their last ten games. Upcoming fixtures include a matchup against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night, followed by a game against the Edmonton Oilers in Alberta on Friday.
