The Detroit Lions terminated their contract with cornerback Cameron Sutton this week following reports of a domestic battery arrest warrant. The Hillsborough County (Florida) Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Sutton was being sought for alleged domestic battery by strangulation.
The Lions issued a statement acknowledging their awareness of Sutton’s legal situation, stating they will continue to monitor the matter and refrain from further comment for now. Sutton, who had signed a 3-year contract worth $33 million, was released by the team yesterday.
Despite starting all 17 regular-season games and three postseason matches last season, Sutton’s tenure with the Lions was short-lived, having previously spent six years in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
