Al-Hamadi opens up on settling in at Town

The new Ipswich Town striker, Ali Al-Hamadi, believes that his familiarity with some of his teammates will aid his adjustment to life at Portman Road. The Iraq international finalized a four-and-a-half year deal with the Blues on Monday, transferring from League Two side AFC Wimbledon for a fee exceeding £1 million. Al-Hamadi emphasized the influence of manager Kieran McKenna in his decision to join Suffolk and expressed anticipation at reconnecting with familiar faces in the dressing room. Speaking to TownTV, the 21-year-old mentioned his acquaintance with Sam Morsy, having interacted through mutual connections and engaging in several phone conversations. He also noted his prior knowledge of Leif Davis, recalling their time together at Bournemouth during a trial period subsequent to his departure from Swansea.

“I’ve had the chance to play against Elkan Baggott a few times for the national team, so we’ve bumped into each other at the hotel during the last international break and had some chats. So, I’m familiar with those three guys. They’re not my closest pals, but we’ve crossed paths before. It’s comforting to have some familiar faces when you’re joining a new club.”

Al-Hamadi also expressed gratitude to his former teammates at AFC Wimbledon upon completing his move to Suffolk. During his time with the Dons, he scored 27 goals in 48 appearances, and fans were saddened to see their star player leave.

“What an incredible club Wimbledon is,” Al-Hamadi exclaimed. “I’m incredibly thankful to everyone there. I understand that the move may have come a bit sooner than they would have liked, but when a club as prestigious as Ipswich comes calling, it’s hard to ignore.”

“It’s really tough for me to leave; it’s not an easy decision. They’ve become like family to me, and I genuinely love everyone there. I’ve formed strong bonds with the staff, and especially the manager, who has done so much for me.

“I hope I’ve left my teammates in a good place where they can continue to perform well and achieve promotion to League One.”
