Breaking news: The Dodgers, New York Yankees reportedly in bidding war for young All-Star hitter

The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees are well-acquainted rivals, both in MLB free agency and on the field. Now, new trade rumors suggest the Dodgers and Yankees are in a bidding war for an All-Star hitter.

MLB rumors: Dodgers, Yankees in 'bidding war' for Isaac Paredes

New York has already made a significant move before the MLB trade deadline by acquiring All-Star hitter Jazz Chisholm Jr. However, the Yankees are not finished with their deals, and Los Angeles is equally aggressive in trade negotiations as the 6:00 PM EDT deadline on Tuesday approaches.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Dodgers and Yankees are in a “bidding war” with the Tampa Bay Rays for All-Star infielder Isaac Paredes.

Paredes, 25, is coming off his first All-Star selection. Initially signed as an international free agent by the Chicago Cubs, he was acquired by the Tampa Bay Rays from the Detroit Tigers in 2022 in exchange for Austin Meadows. Since joining the Rays, Paredes has flourished, establishing himself as one of the top third basemen in the American League.

Acquiring Paredes won’t come cheap. He’s owed less than half of his remaining $3.4 million salary next season and is under club control through arbitration until 2027. Despite his struggles at the plate since June 1, with a .189/.318/.360 slash line, he has maintained an impressive 13.3 percent walk rate over the past two months.

Paredes is an ideal addition for the Yankees lineup, as New York ranks among the worst MLB teams in run production from its third basemen, and the Rays’ slugger would fit perfectly in that spot. For Los Angeles, Paredes could fill in at third base with Max Muncy on the injured list or serve as an option at second base.

Acquiring the All-Star hitter will require a strong package of prospects, but both the Dodgers and Yankees have top prospects that align with what Tampa Bay is seeking. If it comes down to a bidding war, it could significantly influence which team reaches the World Series.
