Breaking News: Atlanta Hawks star center been ‘checked in’ by The New York Knicks

The New York Knicks are currently scouting several centers to improve their roster via trades. Recent reports have connected them to potential targets such as Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz, Nick Richards from the Charlotte Hornets, and Jalen Duren from the Detroit Pistons.

However, the team appears to favor an experienced veteran who can fit within their salary cap without requiring a significant investment in draft capital. Ian Bagley of SNY reports that the Knicks have shown interest in Clint Capela of the Atlanta Hawks, a seasoned big man nearing the end of his contract.

“Clint Capela from Atlanta was one big that the Knicks checked in on. I don’t know how far talks went, and I don’t know if they’re active at this very moment. But they did check in on Capela,” stated Begley.

Capela, who is set to earn $22.26 million next season, would require the Knicks to adjust their finances to accommodate his salary. Although trade discussions are not currently progressing, Capela’s addition could significantly strengthen the Knicks’ frontcourt.

Capela has been a consistent presence on the court, playing at least 63 games in each of the past four seasons and completing 73 games in the latest campaign. He averaged 11.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game last season, shooting 57.1% from the field. His robust rebounding abilities would complement Mitchell Robinson, who has struggled with injuries. Last season, Robinson was limited to just 31 regular-season games and six playoff games due to a foot injury.
