During his NFL journey, Vereen spent four years with the Patriots after being drafted from the University of California – Berkeley in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. His contributions aided the Patriots in clinching a Super Bowl victory in 2014, where he played a pivotal role on offense. Following his tenure with the Patriots, Vereen spent three seasons with the New York Giants (2015-2017) before retiring in 2018, following a brief stint on the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints.

Primarily functioning as a backup running back throughout his career, Vereen showcased his versatility during his peak season in 2014 with New England, where he amassed 391 rushing yards, 447 receiving yards from 52 receptions, and tallied 5 total touchdowns.

Transitioning from his collegiate days where he excelled as a prolific rusher at Berkeley, Vereen brings a diverse skill set to his new role in Houston, aiming to contribute to the team’s upward trajectory. His appointment further aligns with the Texans’ strategic recruitment of former Patriots personnel, including GM Nick Caserio, highlighting a trend within the organization’s front office.
