BREAKING: Buffalo Bills announce three veteran free agent signings to bolster squad depth

On Friday, the Buffalo Bills fortified their roster’s depth by signing three veteran players to one-year contracts, addressing specific positional needs. The additions include wide receiver Chase Claypool, defensive end Dawuane Smoot, and linebacker Deion Jones. While the terms of these contracts were not immediately disclosed, the team confirmed Jones’ signing, which was previously rumored.

At 29 years old, Jones brings a wealth of experience to the team, boasting a skill set particularly adept at pass coverage. He’s seen as a reliable veteran who can step in when needed, though his tenure across multiple teams in recent seasons raises questions about his stability on an NFL roster.

Smoot, also 29, has spent his entire career with the Jacksonville Jaguars since being drafted in 2017. His performance metrics include 23.5 sacks, 27 tackles for loss, and 64 quarterback hits across 99 career games, demonstrating his capability as a dependable depth player, akin to the role previously held by Shaq Lawson.

Claypool, at 25, was a second-round pick for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2020, known for his imposing physical stature. Despite a promising rookie season, his career has seen fluctuations in both performance and consistency, having been traded between teams like the Bears and the Dolphins.

While specifics regarding the contracts remain undisclosed, it’s anticipated that these one-year deals are structured around the veteran’s minimum salary, possibly with additional incentives tied to playing time and performance metrics. Further details on the contracts will be provided once they are made available.
