Josh Allen ‘pretty pumped’ we drafted Him: Bills GM Brandon Beane

Josh Allen eagerly anticipates working with the new addition, Keon Coleman, the wide receiver recently acquired by Buffalo in the second round of the draft. Coleman shared that upon being drafted, Allen reached out to him with the message, “You’re the guy that I wanted.” General manager Brandon Beane elaborated on Allen’s active involvement in the drafting process during a recent interview, highlighting Allen’s enthusiasm for evaluating potential prospects.

Bills GM Brandon Beane addresses offseason needs

Beane mentioned Allen’s penchant for reaching out during the offseason to discuss various players he had encountered, demonstrating his keen interest in the draft. Beane also noted Allen’s presence in the team facility since the start of the offseason program, where he engaged in discussions with coaches about potential draft picks. Allen expressed his approval for several prospects, including Keon Coleman, whom he particularly favored. Although Allen and Beane didn’t communicate much on draft day, Allen’s excitement was evident when he FaceTimed Beane the following morning to inquire about the team’s plans, showing considerable enthusiasm upon learning of Coleman’s selection.

When the Bills opted to trade down twice from picks 28 and 32, it indicated that they had a list of preferred players they were considering. By securing the No. 33 pick at the start of the second round, Beane had the opportunity to select Coleman unless an enticing trade offer emerged. Watching Coleman’s game footage makes it clear why Allen would be drawn to the tall, physical receiver. Coming from FSU, Coleman showcased a repertoire of challenging catches that rivalled those of any wide receiver in this year’s draft class. His knack for securing catches in tight spaces suggests that his skills will easily transition to the professional level.

Coleman’s main critique revolves around his limited ability to create substantial separation from defensive backs. However, from Allen’s perspective, where confidence in his strong arm allows him to thread passes into narrow openings, this perceived weakness may not concern him as much.
