Hamilton Tiger-Cats select a pair of Australian players in the 2024 CFL Global Draft

Today in the 2024 CFL Global Draft, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats made a notable move by selecting two Australian players: punter Nik Constantinou and tight end Thomas Yassmin.

Constantinou, aged 24, showcased his skills in 13 games last season at Texas A&M University, recording impressive punting stats including 41 punts for 1,693 yards. Standing at 6’3 and weighing 225 pounds, the Melbourne native displayed consistency throughout his collegiate career, amassing 191 punts for 8,174 yards with numerous punts landing inside the 20-yard line and several exceeding 50 yards. He received recognition for his talents, earning spots on various All-SEC teams and being named a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award. Constantinou’s background in Australian Rules Football provided a solid foundation for his transition to American football at Texas A&M.

Meanwhile, Yassmin, aged 23, made his mark at the University of Utah, where he contributed in five games last season, tallying eight receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown. Standing at an imposing 6’5 and weighing 250 pounds, the Sydney native showcased his athleticism and potential during his time with the Utes, accumulating 22 receptions for 396 yards and seven touchdowns over his collegiate career. Yassmin’s background in rugby at The Scots College in New South Wales, Australia, laid the groundwork for his journey to becoming a tight end at Utah after redshirting in 2018.
