Huge boost for Terrapins as they reportedly confirm another vital signing

Maryland women’s basketball has added UConn forward Amari DeBerry to its roster, marking the fifth transfer acquisition under head coach Brenda Frese this cycle. DeBerry, a 6-foot-6 forward from Williamsville, New York, brings notable potential despite limited playing time during her three seasons with the Huskies. Despite her reduced role at UConn, DeBerry was a highly-regarded prospect in high school, ranked as the No. 15 recruit in the 2021 class. Early injuries and shifting dynamics on the UConn team contributed to her reduced playing time.

DeBerry’s addition addresses a need for Maryland in the front court, complementing existing players like Allie Kubek, Emma Chardon (currently recovering from injury), Mayé Touré, and freshman Breanna Williams. Coach Frese has strategically bolstered the team’s size and depth in response to challenges faced in the paint and on the boards against top opponents over recent seasons. DeBerry’s international experience, including winning gold at FIBA competitions, adds further depth to her basketball resume and highlights her potential impact moving forward with Maryland.
