‘Huge Blow’ Longhorns confirm the departure of another star player

According to an Instagram post a redshirt sophomore edge rusher who transferred from Texas football, has committed to joining the Arizona State Sun Devils. Tapp, who spent two seasons with the Longhorns, has three years of eligibility remaining. He utilized a redshirt year under the four-game rule during his freshman year, playing sparingly in just a few games during the 2022 season.

During his last season with Texas, Tapp participated in 98 defensive snaps across seven games, achieving nine combined tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, seven quarterback pressures, two QB hits, and four defensive stops since the 2022 season.

Coming from Donaldsonville (LA) Ascension Catholic High School, Tapp was a highly regarded four-star recruit in the 2022 class, ranked as the top edge rusher from Louisiana by the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking. He was placed 107th nationally in the 2022 class by the 247Sports Composite, ranking 11th in edge rushers and 9th in Louisiana.

Tapp was part of the talented defensive recruitment that helped elevate the Longhorns’ 2022 class, which was among the top five nationally in the 247Sports Composite.

Arizona State keeps loading up on former Texas transfers

In recent years, Arizona State, under the leadership of second-year head coach Kenny Dillingham, has been actively recruiting former Texas Longhorns players. J’Mond Tapp is the latest addition to this trend, joining other former Longhorns like Xavion Alford and Prince Dorbah on the Sun Devils’ roster for the upcoming 2024 season.

Arizona State’s move to the Big 12 aligns with Tapp’s decision, as the Sun Devils, alongside other teams like Colorado, Arizona, and Utah, are transitioning to this conference from the Pac-12. This shift in conferences has also influenced the decisions of other former Longhorns transfers, like offensive lineman Payton Kirkland, who recently committed to Colorado under head coach Deion Sanders .
