Newcastle United injury setback confirmed after £31m star ruled out for three matches

Newcastle United’s manager, Eddie Howe, disclosed that Tino Livramento encountered a setback in his fitness, as evidenced by his absence from the pitch during the team’s 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace.

On Tuesday night, Tino Livramento remained on the bench as Newcastle United suffered a 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace. Eddie Howe opted for the same starting lineup that secured a 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the team’s previous match, with Livramento staying among the substitutes. The 21-year-old had been sidelined for three matches due to an ankle injury sustained in the loss against Chelsea last month but made a comeback as a substitute during the closing moments of the triumph against Spurs.

Eddie Howe, the head coach, has now clarified that Tino Livramento was listed as an ’emergency’ substitute during Wednesday night’s match at Selhurst Park. Howe explained the challenging circumstances the team faced, with several players not at full fitness and a small training group between games, limiting their options. Livramento, still struggling with his ankle, was held back as a precautionary measure, and his presence on the bench was primarily for emergency situations. Howe highlighted the tight training conditions over the past 10 days, with only 12-13 players available. Looking ahead to the next match against Sheffield United, Howe expressed uncertainty about Livramento’s involvement, prioritizing his long-term health over immediate returns.

“He’s technically fit enough to step onto the pitch, but there’s a high risk involved, and we’re cautious about avoiding any potential long-term issues. However, the decision ultimately hinges on the availability of other players. Newcastle is currently awaiting the return of Joelinton, Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almiron, and Nick Pope from their respective injuries before the season concludes.”
