Josh Allen shares what he texted Stefon Diggs after Bills traded the star wide receiver to Texans

The dynamic between former Buffalo Bills teammates Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs has been a topic of discussion, particularly leading up to Diggs’ trade. Just before the trade, Diggs seemed to question whether Allen could succeed without him. However, despite any potential tension, Allen opted to handle the situation with grace when he publicly addressed the Diggs trade for the first time on Thursday. He made a point to commend Diggs and acknowledge the significant impact the wide receiver had on his career during their four years together. Allen mentioned that they exchanged text messages following Diggs’ trade to the Houston Texans.

“Just thanking him for everything that he did for me,” Allen said of the text. “I’ll always have a spot in my heart for him and I’ll always love him like a brother and wish him nothing but the best.”

Allen expressed disappointment in Buffalo’s decision to part ways with Stefon Diggs, acknowledging Diggs’ significant role in his development as a quarterback. “It’s definitely tough to say goodbye to someone who has played such a crucial role in our success over the past four years,” Allen remarked. “I truly believe that Stef helped shape me into the quarterback I am today.” He reflected on the changes the team has undergone during the offseason, including the loss of veteran leadership like Diggs. Despite his personal feelings, Allen recognized the nature of the business and emphasized his focus on being the best quarterback and leader he can be for the team, regardless of changes made by management.

Even though Allen will now aim to maintain success without Diggs, who will be teaming up with reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud in Houston, Bills general manager Brandon Beane remains calm. Beane stated this week that acquiring a new No. 1 wide receiver isn’t a priority for the Bills.

“What we’re looking for in this offense are players who are intelligent, adaptable, team-oriented, and capable of making plays based on their skill sets,” Beane explained. “If there’s someone in free agency or the draft who fits that profile, whether as a No. 1 or a strong No. 2, we’ll consider it. However, not having a designated No. 1 receiver doesn’t mean we can’t find success on offense or as a team.”

While Allen and Diggs are parting ways, their remarkable success as teammates deserves recognition. In October, CBS Sports’ Nate Burleson ranked Allen and Diggs as the second-best QB/WR duo in the NFL, trailing only Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill. Their partnership, which contributed to four consecutive AFC East division titles for Buffalo, will be remembered as the second-best QB/WR duo in Bills history, behind only the legendary combination of Jim Kelly and Andre Reed.
