Northern Kentucky transfer has committed to Missouri

According to a source from 247Sports, Marques Warrick, who previously played for Northern Kentucky, has decided to join Missouri. Warrick made his decision from a selection of five schools, which were Cincinnati, Penn State, Seton Hall, USC, and Missouri. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 185 pounds, Warrick is a guard hailing from Lexington, Kentucky. He received recognition with All-Horizon League First Team honors for his performance this season, where he averaged 19.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.

Warrick’s commitment marks the third addition to Dennis Gates’ 2024 portal recruiting class for Missouri’s men’s basketball team. He joins Jacob Crews from UT Martin and Tony Perkins from Iowa as newcomers via the portal. Currently ranked as the No. 14 shooting guard in the 247Sports Transfer Portal Rankings, Warrick adds depth to the Tigers’ roster.

For the sixth time this year, Marques Warrick named #HLMBB Freshman of the Week - Northern Kentucky University Athletics

The transfer portal opened on March 18th and will close on May 1st. During this window, players can request a transfer by submitting paperwork to their current school, which must then be entered into the NCAA Portal database within 48 hours.

Players who have earned enough credits to graduate can enter the transfer portal at any time, designated as “Grad Transfers.” Additionally, players have a 30-day window to enter the portal following any coaching changes within their team, independent of the March 18th-May 1st window.

Once a player enters the transfer portal, other schools are allowed to reach out and initiate the recruiting process.

This off-season introduces a new rule that will impact the transfer market significantly. Previously, players were granted a one-time transfer waiver, and if they transferred again, they needed another waiver from the NCAA to be immediately eligible. However, a recent memo from the NCAA suggests that transfers this spring are expected to be immediately eligible for the 2024-25 season, removing the need for additional waivers.
