Just In: Huge blow for Auburn as another star reportedly enters transfer portal

According to an initial report by Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports on Tuesday morning, Aden Holloway, who faced challenges in his first year as Auburn’s main point guard, is anticipated to join the transfer portal.

Aden Holloway, a former five-star high school recruit, is poised to join the ranks of K.D. Johnson and Tre Donaldson as the third Auburn guard entering the transfer portal. Auburn is eagerly awaiting the arrival of Tahaad Pettiford, another highly-rated five-star guard expected to join the team in the summer, regarded as the top-rated point guard in the 2024 class.

Holloway, known for his shooting prowess, quickly showcased his skills during a preseason scrimmage and early in Auburn’s season, securing the starting point guard position. Throughout Auburn’s first 13 non-conference games, he maintained a 36.6% success rate from beyond the arc, averaging 10.5 points per game.

His proficiency from the three-point line garnered significant attention, establishing him as one of the standout freshmen nationally. His mother, Robin Raimey, mentioned to AL.com that Holloway honed his shooting skills through self-taught methods, watching YouTube tutorials in their improvised basketball court at home in Charlotte, North Carolina.

However, once SEC play commenced, Holloway encountered a slump. His shooting percentages notably declined, with a 29.6% field goal rate and a 24.4% success rate on three-pointers. He averaged 5.5 points per game during this period and went without a three-pointer in nine of the last 22 games of the season.

Despite visible frustration on the court, Holloway maintained his dedication to improvement, often being the first and last player at Auburn practices. He continued to work tirelessly to break out of his shooting slump, receiving encouragement from Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl and his teammates.

While his scoring struggled, Holloway showcased improvements in his passing and defensive abilities, leading Auburn in assist-to-turnover ratio for the season.

In his final game with Auburn against Yale, Holloway went 0-5 from the field. During his high school recruitment, he also considered Tennessee, Miami, and Wake Forest as potential options before committing to Auburn.
