Three-time Cfl All-star Offensive Lineman Announces Retirement

Chris Van Zeyl, a three-time CFL All-Star offensive lineman, declared his retirement after completing 15 seasons in the league. His final four seasons were with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, during which he participated in 36 regular season matches and seven playoff games. Notably, he played a pivotal role in guiding the team to the Grey Cup finals in 2019 and 2021. Van Zeyl’s standout performance in 2019 earned him recognition as both an All-Star and the CFL’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman

Orlondo Steinauer, President of Football Operations for the Tiger-Cats, praised Van Zeyl’s remarkable career, emphasizing his professionalism and impact both on and off the field. Van Zeyl’s journey began with the Toronto Argonauts from 2008 to 2018, where he played 192 games and participated in four Grey Cups, winning two (2012 and 2017). He received CFL All-Star honors in the 2013, 2017, and 2019 seasons.

Beyond his athletic achievements, Van Zeyl left a lasting impression on the Hamilton community and was honored with the Jake Gaudaur Veteran’s Trophy in 2021 for embodying the qualities of Canada’s veterans.
