Wrexham reportedly plot transfer move for ‘maverick’ attacker with 16 goals this season

Wrexham appeared to be in an advantageous position following their 2-0 victory over Mansfield Town at home last Friday. However, their visit to Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday resulted in a 1-0 loss, indicating that there is still work to be done for Wrexham.

Achieving four victories in the last five games would secure automatic promotion for Wrexham. Nonetheless, they would also benefit from any missteps by Milton Keynes Dons. Phil Parkinson and his team undoubtedly aim to secure promotion as swiftly as possible.

At present, Wrexham finds themselves in a state of uncertainty. Certain players, whether current team members or potential recruits for League Two, may find their roles altered if promotion is attained. Wrexham has targets in mind for both promotion and remaining in their current league, but the uncertainty surrounding promotion makes it challenging to initiate significant moves, such as new signings.

Wrexham linked with Northern Ireland talent

However, amidst the uncertainty, Wrexham is reportedly eyeing a potential signing ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk, Wrexham has expressed interest in securing the services of Benji Magee from Loughgall. The report suggests that Wrexham has been keeping tabs on Magee throughout the season, a move that aligns with previous rumors surrounding talent from Northern Ireland.

Moreover, Wrexham has explored the possibility of signing Ronan Hale from Cliftonville, indicating a proactive approach to talent acquisition. The report further suggests that two clubs previously managed by Phil Parkinson – Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic – are also in the race to secure Magee’s signature.

Additionally, English club Oxford United and Scottish side Hibernian are believed to be interested in Magee as well, setting the stage for a competitive battle between clubs from both countries as Wrexham strives to secure his services.

Who is Wrexham target Benji Magee?

Magee has had stints with several Northern Irish clubs in his career so far. The versatile player, who can operate as a striker or on the flanks, has previously been associated with Ards, Crusaders, PSNI, and Lisburn before finding stability with Loughgall in 2022.

His performance this season has been remarkable, with Magee netting an impressive tally of 16 goals in 31 league appearances, along with providing one assist. Such consistent and impactful displays have earned him recognition at the international level, with Magee now representing Northern Ireland at the Under-21 level. Given his form and potential, it appears only a matter of time before he earns senior caps for his country.

Magee’s versatility and attacking prowess could make him a valuable asset for Wrexham, should they decide to pursue him. However, the decision to pursue him and his potential development within the club may hinge on whether Wrexham secures promotion to League One this summer. If Wrexham does ascend to the higher division, Magee’s role and development trajectory within the team could take on a different dynamic compared to if they remain in their current league. Therefore, the club’s promotion fate will likely play a significant role in shaping their approach towards nurturing Magee’s talent and integrating him into their squad.
