Huge blow for Tigers as another star enters transfer portal

LSU’s senior guard, has entered the transfer portal for the second time in her collegiate career, as reported by multiple media outlets on Thursday. She spent one season at LSU, transitioning from shooting guard to point guard, a position she played during her three seasons at Louisville. While at Louisville, she earned recognition as a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference selection. However, her role shifted at LSU, with a decreased emphasis on scoring. In her lone season with the Tigers, she averaged 11.6 points and a career-high 3.6 assists, accompanied by career lows of 2.4 rebounds per game and a 37.8 shooting percentage across 33 games, all of which she started.

The senior guard, who played four seasons of collegiate basketball, is eligible for another year of play due to the NCAA’s extension of eligibility for student-athletes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, she chose not to declare for the WNBA draft before the recent deadline. Van Lith’s transfer to LSU came after a standout performance in her third season at Louisville, where she averaged a career-best 19.7 points per game. She joined LSU, the defending national champions with a well-stocked roster, aiming for further success. However, LSU’s journey ended in the Elite Eight with a 94-87 loss to Iowa, during which Van Lith faced the daunting task of defending Caitlin Clark, who set a record with 41 points.
