Eagles’ C.J. Gardner-Johnson puts Lions fans, former teammates on blast

CJ Gardner-Johnson is determined to return to the Philadelphia Eagles, but he holds reservations about his former team. In particular, he’s critical of certain members of the Detroit Lions under Dan Campbell’s leadership for not engaging with the local community. Additionally, he’s dismayed by how swiftly some fans turned against him following his NFL Free Agency choice. He vented his frustrations on social media, highlighting various issues within the team and fan culture.

CJ Gardner-Johnson criticized Lions fans initially, expressing his frustration that they seemingly disregarded his contributions to the team. He felt disheartened that they overlooked his efforts after he received a more appealing offer from the Eagles.

“Lions fans are quick to turn! But ima hush,” he wrote in a deleted post on X.

Even as a former safety under Dan Campbell’s leadership, CJ Gardner-Johnson underscored the positive treatment he received during his time with the Lions. Despite only being on a one-year contract worth $8 million, he thoroughly enjoyed engaging with the local community and had developed a fondness for them. However, following his decision in NFL Free Agency, he seems to be questioning the absence of that same affection and appreciation.

“City legend though, definitely can ask any East side or West side resident! So quick playing on my name ‘fans,” he declared.

Furthermore, Gardner-Johnson expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of community involvement among the majority of Lions players. He singled out Jameson Williams as the only exception to his criticism, suggesting that the rest of the team failed to prioritize engaging with their local community.

“Tired of these Detroit fans. Let’s set the record straight. ONLY ME & @bigsgjamo had the streets of Detroit behind us. All the other guys on the team were scared to go outside to kick it with the city,” Gardner-Johnson indicated in his Instagram story.
