Jaguars confirm contract extension of another key player in a deal worth $45 million

The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced the extension of linebacker Foyesade Oluokun, securing his presence with the team until 2027. The contract, disclosed on Friday, is valued at $45 million, potentially reaching $48 million, with $22.5 million guaranteed, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Oluokun, a Yale alum, had one year left on his previous three-year deal signed in 2022. By prolonging his tenure, the Jaguars have ensured the services of one of the NFL’s top tacklers. Last season, the 28-year-old led the team with 173 tackles, including 111 solo tackles, marking him as only the sixth player since 2000 to surpass 150 tackles in three consecutive seasons.

Previously leading the league in tackles during his tenure with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, Oluokun continued his dominance upon joining Jacksonville, accumulating 549 tackles over the two seasons, the highest among all NFL players during that timeframe. Originally drafted in the sixth round in 2018, Oluokun spent four seasons with the Falcons before joining the Jaguars in 2021.

His reunion with former Falcons defensive coordinator Ryan Nielson, now assuming the same role in Jacksonville, adds to the anticipation for the upcoming season. They will collaborate with standout defenders such as Josh Allen, Travon Walker, Devin Lloyd, Roy Robertson Harris, and Arik Armstead, who signed a three-year deal with the Jaguars after departing the 49ers this offseason.
