Breaking News: Another Gator declares intention to enter transfer portal and send stunning words message to Gator nation

Sophomore guard Riley Kugel has made the decision to part ways with the Florida basketball program. As reported by Joe Tipton of On3, the Orlando native is now listed in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Throughout the 2023-24 season, Kugel maintained averages of 9.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists for the Gators. However, considering his notable performance during his freshman year, there were greater expectations for him.

Towards the latter part of the season, Kugel began to see a reduction in playing time. In March, he played less than 20 minutes in each game against Alabama. His playing time dwindled further in February, notably against both Alabama and Vanderbilt, where he saw less than 10 minutes of action.

In the SEC Tournament, Kugel found himself on the bench for the final two games and did not participate in either the semifinal or championship matchups.

The 6-foot-5 guard shared the following statement on social media:

“First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to God for all blessings,” Kugel penned. “I’m immensely grateful to Gator Nation for the unwavering love and support throughout these past two years. It’s been an incredible journey, and I deeply appreciate everyone who has stood by me through the highs and lows.

“I will always cherish the strong bonds I’ve formed with my teammates during my time as a freshman and sophomore. To my family, your steadfast support means everything to me. And to all my coaches, a heartfelt thank you, with a special acknowledgment to Coach Korey McCray for his invaluable guidance both on and off the court.

“With that said, I’ve made the decision to enter the transfer portal.”
