Breaking: ‘Huge blow’ Auburn Tigers fan favorite plans to enter transfer portal

According to a collaborative post on his Instagram account, Auburn guard K.D. Johnson has decided to enter the transfer portal. Johnson gained popularity among fans during his three-year tenure at Auburn due to his dynamic, spirited, and intense style of play on the court.

Initially joining Auburn as a transfer after his freshman season at Georgia, Johnson made an immediate impact, starting in 31 games and averaging 12.3 points per game in his debut year with the Tigers. He was also recognized with a preseason All-SEC second team selection heading into his second season at Auburn in 2022-23.

However, over the subsequent two seasons, Johnson experienced a decline in playing time as he was relegated to a bench role.

Known for his high-energy contributions off the bench, Johnson was often referred to as a “psycho” by broadcasters and head coach Bruce Pearl.

Despite participating in senior day celebrations this year, Johnson still has one more year of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer.

Johnson’s departure marks the first player exit from Auburn following the unexpected conclusion of the 2023-24 season, which concluded with a surprising defeat to No. 13 seed Yale in the NCAA Tournament’s opening round.

With only Jaylin Williams and Lior Berman ineligible due to graduation, the remaining guards in Auburn’s rotation include Aden Holloway, Tre Donaldson, Denver Jones, Chad Baker-Mazara (who also plays as a guard/forward combo), and incoming freshman Tahaad Pettiford.

Auburn has already begun reaching out to multiple guards in the transfer portal as they look to bolster their roster.
