Alex Bregman’s latest update sheds light on possible contract talks with Astros

Throughout his illustrious eight-year tenure with the Houston Astros, Alex Bregman has emerged as a cornerstone figure. Renowned for his prowess as a clutch hitter and his ability to deliver crucial plays on the field, Bregman has been instrumental in the Astros’ triumphs, including two World Series titles.

Looking ahead to the end of his contract in 2024, Bregman has expressed his desire to continue his career with the Astros. However, negotiations for a contract extension have yet to materialize between Bregman, his agent Scott Boras, and the team.

Boras, known for his assertive approach in representing players, typically refrains from negotiating during the season. Nonetheless, Bregman is open to Boras engaging in negotiations as the year progresses.

With two All-Star appearances, a Silver Slugger award, and an All-Star Game MVP title under his belt, Bregman’s on-field achievements speak volumes. Despite a solid 2023 season, where he showcased a .262/.363/.441 slash line with 25 home runs and 98 RBIs, his standout year remains 2019 when he boasted a .296/.423/.592 slash line with 41 home runs and 112 RBIs.

Having signed a $100 million contract with the Astros in 2019, Bregman’s impending contract negotiations present a significant opportunity for his formidable agent to secure a lucrative deal. While Bregman has remained tight-lipped during spring training regarding his contract situation, he has recently expressed his preference for expediting negotiations sooner rather than later, as the regular season approaches.

Meeting Bregman’s contract standards may require adjustment if the Astros aim to keep him in the fold for the future. With his sights set on maintaining focus on the game, Bregman intends to leave negotiations in the capable hands of his agent, Boras.

“I’ll be concentrating on my game and leaving the contract matters to him,” Bregman stated. “We’re open to discussions, but my priority is playing ball and giving my best on the field.”
