Breaking News: Controversial ex-raiders $66 million Pro Bowler signs contract with bengals

The Las Vegas Raiders made several questionable decisions during Jon Gruden’s time as head coach, and one of the most criticized moves was making Trent Brown the highest-paid right tackle in the NFL in 2019. Despite signing a hefty $66 million contract, Brown’s stint with the team lasted only two seasons before he was traded to the New England Patriots.

Despite doubts about his value matching his high price tag, Brown has found a new team. According to a March 19th post by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Brown is set to join the Cincinnati Bengals on a one-year deal.

The Bengals have faced challenges in protecting quarterback Joe Burrow since his entry into the NFL, and Brown’s arrival should provide an improvement at right tackle. When in good health, Brown remains one of the premier pass blockers in the league. Data from Next Gen Stats shows that in 2023, Brown faced one-on-one situations for 88.3% of his pass-blocking snaps, the highest rate among left tackles. Remarkably, he allowed pressure on just 7.1% of those snaps, the second-lowest rate in the NFL.
