Andre Breitenreiter delivers honest verdict after draw against Rotherham United

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN’s head coach, Andre Breitenreiter, maintains that securing a point against Rotherham United, who are destined for League One, could still hold significance within their season. Despite being third from bottom, Town managed to hold their ground even after playing with ten men for the final 32 minutes following Sorba Thomas’s dismissal for two quick bookable offenses. The match ended in a goalless draw, but Breitenreiter sees value in the result.

Despite pressure from the traveling Town supporters to make attacking substitutions late in the game, Breitenreiter opted to maintain defensive stability, prioritizing the preservation of their clean sheet and settling for the draw. Reflecting on the match, he expressed that each point gained could be crucial, especially considering the circumstances of playing with a numerical disadvantage for a significant portion of the game.

Breitenreiter acknowledged the challenges of playing with ten men and emphasized the importance of maintaining positivity and belief in collecting points. He emphasized the need for resilience, reminding his players to stay focused on the ultimate goal of accumulating points throughout the season.

While Millers’ manager Leam Richardson acknowledged his team’s commitment, he also recognized that the sending off impacted the dynamics of the game for both sides.

He further commented, stating, “I don’t believe anyone avoided receiving the ball, and we competed evenly in terms of races and duels on the flanks, maintaining a strong performance in the first half.”

“The red card certainly disrupted the flow of the game, as it often does. Playing against ten can be challenging as they tend to close down the spaces you aim to exploit.”
