Latest: Keenan Allen delivers 9-word message after ‘shock’ transfer to Chicago Bears

The Los Angeles Chargers made headlines by trading their six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, Keenan Allen, to the Chicago Bears. This move was accompanied by the inclusion of a fourth-round pick, following the Chargers’ release of wide receiver Mike Williams.

Behind the scenes of this trade, Allen disclosed that the Chargers had approached him with a request to either accept a pay cut or restructure his contract. This proposition was agreed upon by linebackers Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack. However, contrary to expectations, Allen opted to decline the offer.

Describing his reaction, Allen stated, “There really was no emotion, it was, I’m not doing it. I’m not doing it. Came off my best season, so it’s not happening.”

Allen also shared his initial desire to conclude his career in Los Angeles, acknowledging, “obviously wanted to finish my career” there. Despite this aspiration, he acknowledged the reality of unforeseen circumstances, noting, “But things happen and you’ve got to keep on going,” expressing a pragmatic approach to the situation as a 31-year-old receiver.

Keenan Allen, whose NFL journey began at the University of California, established an impressive legacy with the Chargers. Since being drafted in 2013 as the 76th overall pick, he soared to set a career-high single-season record for the team with 108 receptions in just 13 games.

Despite poised to break more records, Allen’s season was unfortunately cut short due to an ankle injury, causing him to miss the final four games. Nevertheless, his significant contributions, including 1,243 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, remain unforgettable in Chargers’ history.

At 31 years old, Allen is looking forward to the new opportunities ahead, especially teaming up with Bears’ receiver DJ Moore. He expressed excitement about their potential, highlighting their ability to make plays and beat man coverage.

Reflecting on his transition to Chicago, Allen emphasized continuity in his approach, stating, “Just continue what I’ve been doing.” He reassured fans that although he may wear a different jersey, his commitment remains unchanged.

Known for his friendly demeanor both on and off the field, Allen believes his football intelligence and ability to communicate effectively benefit his quarterbacks. He is confident in his understanding of the game, including reading defenses and executing plays.

The Chicago Bears currently hold the highly anticipated No. 1 overall pick, widely expected to benefit USC QB Caleb Williams.
