Breaking News: Tiger-Cats bolster squad depth by signing another key player

The Tiger-Cats are actively bolstering their training camp lineup by securing key players in crucial positions to ensure strong depth. Recently, they added Caleb Biggers, an American defensive back, and now they’ve signed American linebacker Aaron Hansford, as per the CFL transactions list. This addresses their focus on reinforcing the defensive backfield and linebacker positions ahead of the swiftly approaching 2024 season.

2020 A&M profile: Hansford a valuable third down linebacker

Hansford, a 6’3″, 240-pound linebacker hailing from Washington, D.C., played college football at Texas A&M from 2016 to 2021. During his time with the Aggies, he amassed 157 total tackles, seven quarterback sacks, and even showcased versatility by playing briefly as a wide receiver, tallying three receptions for 39 yards. His standout senior year in 2021 saw him rack up 85 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks, and contribute significantly to turnovers.

After college, Hansford joined the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2022. In the 2023 USFL season, he suited up for the Memphis Showboats, playing nine games and making ten tackles along with one quarterback sack. Securing a spot on the Tiger-Cats’ 2024 roster could provide him with a platform to showcase his professional potential.

Scouting reports highlighted Hansford’s athleticism and proficiency in open spaces, but also pointed out areas for improvement such as recognizing run plays and man-to-man pass coverage. His skill set suggests he could excel as an outside linebacker for the Tiger-Cats, utilizing his agility and spatial awareness effectively.
