Breaking News: ‘Huge boost’ Bulldogs get positive injury news regarding top super star

Canterbury Bulldogs’ standout player Josh Addo-Carr may return to the field within two weeks following scans that have ruled out the initial fear of a broken collarbone. Despite enduring 33 minutes of discomfort during Saturday’s match against Parramatta, both Addo-Carr and coach Cameron Ciraldo were apprehensive about the severity of his right shoulder injury. Addo-Carr described feeling immediate pain whenever he attempted to raise his arm during play. However, scans conducted on Saturday night have alleviated concerns of a fracture or significant shoulder damage, instead revealing a sprained AC joint.

Initially, a recovery period of 6-8 weeks was anticipated based on early assessments, as Addo-Carr departed Commbank Stadium wearing a sling. Nonetheless, the representative winger is optimistic about missing only one match and aiming for a return as early as round 3 against the Titans, albeit while managing the discomfort associated with the injury.

On a positive note for the Eels, scans conducted on Sunday have cleared star halfback Mitchell Moses of any serious groin issue following his late-game hobbling. Coach Brad Arthur has confirmed Moses’ fitness for Friday’s anticipated clash against long-standing rivals Penrith.

Addo-Carr sustained the injury in the seventh minute of the Bulldogs’ 26-8 defeat to Parramatta at CommBank Stadium after colliding with Eels back-rower Bryce Cartwright. Despite the discomfort, Addo-Carr refused to exit the field until half-time, even contributing with four carries and a tackle.

Despite Josh Addo-Carr clearly experiencing significant pain and showing signs of favoring his right shoulder, the Parramatta Eels only directed a few kicks to his side of the field during the match.

Speaking to this publication in the locker room, Addo-Carr expressed the immediate and intense pain he felt, with his arm already immobilized in a sling. However, he felt a responsibility to his team to play the full 40 minutes of the half. Despite suspecting a broken collarbone due to the pain radiating to various areas, including his sternum, he acknowledged the unpredictable nature of rugby league and remained determined to return swiftly after undergoing scans.

During the match at CommBank Stadium, Addo-Carr had his right arm heavily strapped, although he clarified that his shoulder was not the primary concern, having previously hyperextended his elbow. Additionally, he mentioned his preference for strapping his wrists higher.

Canterbury captain Stephen Crichton immediately recognized Addo-Carr’s distress but encouraged him to persevere, knowing the team’s shortage of available backs. Crichton praised Addo-Carr’s toughness and selflessness, highlighting his commitment to training despite injuries throughout the preseason, which exemplifies his character and dedication to the team’s success.

The incident underscores the resilient culture we’re cultivating, where players push through adversity for the team’s sake. Initially unaware of the severity, Stephen Crichton realized the seriousness when Josh Addo-Carr mentioned struggling to breathe.

Addo-Carr, who focused on bulking up during the summer, aimed to make a significant impact at Belmore, especially after a frustrating season last year, during which he only played 15 games due to various injuries. His determination was evident despite being sidelined for six weeks due to ankle and knee ligament damage sustained in a previous match against South Sydney.

Coach Cameron Ciraldo commended Addo-Carr’s commitment and acknowledged several potential replacements for him. Connor Tracey, who served as the 18th man against the Eels, might debut against his former team Cronulla on Friday. Another prospect, Bronson Xerri, impressed during the trials following his return from a four-year suspension due to a drug ban.
