Breaking News : SF Giants confirm the signing of top MLB super star

The San Francisco Giants strengthened their pitching resources within the organization by acquiring an experienced relief pitcher. As reported by Ari Alexander from KPRC 2, the Giants have enlisted Justin Garza, who previously played for the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Guardians, on a minor league contract.

According to Alexander, Garza will join the minor league camp, suggesting he’s not currently contending for a spot in the starting rotation on Opening Day. However, the Giants may consider promoting him from the minor league camp when the need arises.

Originally selected in the eighth round of the 2015 draft from California State University – Fullerton by the Guardians, Garza was initially drafted as a starting pitcher but has shifted to a bullpen role due to struggles with control.

Over seven minor league seasons, he’s amassed a 4.66 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, 8.9 K/9, and a 2.16 SO/W ratio. Despite a decent 3.98 ERA in Triple-A across five seasons, his performance at that level hasn’t translated into major league success.

In his major league career spanning two seasons with the Guardians and the Red Sox, he’s posted a 5.74 ERA with 46 strikeouts and 30 walks. Notably, his most recent major league appearance was in 2023 with the Red Sox, providing him with recent exposure to big league hitters.

Garza’s pitching arsenal includes a mid-90s sinker complemented by a cutter, slider, and changeup. While his sinker shows promise in velocity, hitters have managed to elevate it, and his secondary pitches are not particularly standout.

At 29 years old, Garza still possesses two remaining minor league options, which could prove valuable to the Giants if they add him to the 40-man roster in the future. Given the lack of experience among bullpen options on the 40-man roster, Garza could serve as a seasoned alternative down the line.

However, for the upcoming 2024 season, it’s likely Garza will start in Triple-A. Even if he doesn’t crack the Giants’ roster, his recent success at that level could benefit the Sacramento River Cats, especially considering their youthful roster featuring several top prospects.
