Trade Rumors: Ex-Dodgers All-Star Could Be Option For Yankees To Add Depth To Starting Rotation

The New York Yankees are in need of another starting pitcher to bolster their rotation, aiming to strengthen their depth. Despite being considered one of the top teams in the American League, they remain linked to various available players. Their starting rotation stands out as a notable weakness, heavily reliant on players bouncing back in the 2024 season. While there’s been talk of pursuing superstar pitcher Blake Snell, the financial implications make such a move highly improbable due to potential tax penalties.

However, if the Yankees are still intent on reinforcing their pitching staff, there are alternative avenues to explore. With Opening Day looming, there are free agents available who could provide solid contributions at a reasonable cost. One such option is Zack Greinke, a six-time All-Star who was previously among the elite pitchers in baseball, particularly during his tenure with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite being 40 years old and not performing at his peak, Greinke remains unsigned and eager to play in 2024. Despite a challenging 2023 season with a 5.06 ERA in 30 appearances for the Kansas City Royals, his performance in 2022 was more promising with a 3.68 ERA in 26 starts.

Given New York’s struggles with injuries and lack of depth in the previous season, adding another experienced arm like Greinke could prove beneficial in avoiding similar issues. As a potential future Hall of Famer with a wealth of experience, Greinke could offer valuable support to the Yankees’ rotation. Therefore, considering his track record and potential contributions, why not give him a chance?
