£40m midfielder open to Premier League transfer as Newcastle United look to strike deal

Newcastle United’s Joelinton expresses his desire to remain in the Premier League, even if his contract situation at St James’ Park remains unresolved. It’s reported that he’s keen on staying in the league should negotiations for a new deal at Newcastle falter. The club is said to be nearing an agreement with the midfielder, aiming to elevate his earnings to match the top earners. However, there’s acknowledgment from Magpies head coach Eddie Howe that failure to secure a new deal could lead to Joelinton’s sale before his contract expires next summer to avoid losing him for nothing later. Yet, Newcastle’s primary focus is securing him on a long-term basis due to his significant role in the team.

In the event of unsuccessful negotiations, it’s suggested that Joelinton would explore opportunities with other Premier League clubs, given his impact at Newcastle. Nonetheless, Newcastle remains optimistic about reaching a new agreement with Joelinton, with co-owner Amanda Staveley leading negotiations. Howe emphasizes the importance of retaining Joelinton, highlighting it as a top priority for the club.

“I believe we’ve felt the absence of Joe’s attributes, particularly his physicality, strength in challenges, and effectiveness in set-piece situations, both defensively and offensively. Having a midfielder of his stature and competitiveness is a rare advantage, and the impact of his absence becomes apparent when those qualities are lacking.”
