Done Deal: Braves reportedly confirm the Signing of MLB outfielder

The Braves recently inked outfielder Skye Bolt to a minor league deal. He made his debut in Spring Training today, stepping in as a defensive replacement during the exhibition game against the Tigers.

Bolt, aged 30, aims to return to the majors after his last stint in 2022. Hailing from North Carolina, he played parts of three seasons in the big leagues with teams from the Bay Area between 2019 and 2022. Most of his time was with the A’s in his final season, where he recorded a batting average of .198, an on-base percentage of .259, and a slugging percentage of .330 across 42 games. His overall stats in the majors include a batting line of .156/.205/.266 over 187 plate appearances.

Bolt has shown stronger performance in Triple-A, boasting a slash line of .298/.388/.483 over four seasons at that level. However, this success largely occurred in hitter-friendly environments in the Pacific Coast League. His performance dipped slightly with Milwaukee’s Triple-A affiliate last year, with a .257/.359/.367 line in 64 games.

Bolt’s speed, fittingly, is above average, making him suitable for all three outfield positions. He has shown a knack for drawing walks in the minors, although he lacks significant power. While it’s highly unlikely he secures a spot on the Opening Day roster, he will provide depth for the Triple-A Gwinnett team.

The starting outfield for Atlanta, comprising Jarred Kelenic, Michael Harris II, and Ronald Acuña Jr., is well-established. However, the Braves’ options beyond them lack extensive MLB experience. Forrest Wall and J.P. Martínez, the other outfielders on the 40-man roster, have only a combined 32 games in the majors. To bolster their outfield depth, the Braves have brought in several non-roster players for consideration, including Leury García, Jordan Luplow, Eli White, Luis Liberato, and Luke Williams.
