Latest: LSU WR Malik Nabers Reveals Thoughts on Falcons

Following a disappointing performance in 2023 and the installment of a new coaching staff headed by Raheem Morris, the Atlanta Falcons are poised for significant changes to their offense this offseason. Unsurprisingly, the quarterback position has been the focal point of discussions in Atlanta, as is often the case across the NFL. Any available quarterback, whether through free agency, trade, or the draft, is likely to be linked to the Falcons in some capacity. However, other positions, particularly wide receiver, also emerge as pressing needs. Last season, the Falcons only managed to secure four touchdowns from their wide receivers, with Drake London and Scotty Miller each contributing two. While quarterback performance may shoulder some blame, the reality remains that the wide receiver position represents a substantial deficiency for Atlanta.

Thankfully for the Falcons, one of the top receivers in the upcoming draft has expressed a desire to join their ranks. LSU’s Malik Nabers, widely regarded as the second-best receiver in the draft behind Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr., was asked whether he would prefer to play for the Falcons or the Tennessee Titans. He promptly chose the former.

“Oof,” Nabers said. “Uh, that’s pretty good. I ain’t gonna lie, Atlanta wouldn’t be too bad.”

Nabers’ preference for the Falcons shouldn’t be interpreted as a slight toward the Titans, as he mentioned that his meeting with them “went pretty good” as well. Even if the Titans perceive it as such, they have the advantage of picking one spot ahead of the Falcons and also require assistance at the receiver position, giving them the ability to potentially snatch him away from Atlanta if they choose to do so. Nevertheless, Nabers’ inclination towards the Falcons is certainly encouraging for them. The standout receiver from LSU had an outstanding season, amassing 89 receptions for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns. Notably, he achieved this while playing alongside Brian Thomas Jr., another anticipated first-round pick who also surpassed the 1,000-yard mark.
