Diamondbacks reportedly confirm another vital signing

The Arizona Diamondbacks signed experienced infielder Elvis Andrus to a minor league contract, which includes an invite to their spring training. Andrus, aged 35, boasts an impressive career with 2,091 hits across 15 seasons in the major leagues, earning him two All-Star selections. Although primarily a shortstop, he also filled in at second base for the Chicago White Sox last season, playing 63 games, with 60 starts. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo expressed admiration for Andrus’s style of play, highlighting his commitment and skill, stating, “I’ve always been a fan of Elvis, plays the game hard, he plays the game right, he’s been doing it at a very high level from a very young age.”

“It’s really exciting for us to have the opportunity to bring in someone like Andrus, who we believe still has a lot of quality baseball ahead of him. Meeting him for the first time was a thrill for me personally, being a baseball enthusiast myself. He’s proven himself as a winner and a top-tier player, so I was eager to have a conversation with him and learn from his experiences.”

The Diamondbacks are in search of a backup middle infielder to support their 2023 All-Star shortstop Geraldo Perdomo and second baseman Ketel Marte, who was a postseason standout last year during the team’s journey to the World Series.

Last season with the White Sox, Andrus posted a .251 batting average with six home runs and 44 RBIs in 112 games.

Throughout his career spanning teams like the Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics, and the White Sox, Andrus has maintained a .269 career batting average with 102 home runs and 775 RBIs across 2,059 games. Notably, his 347 career steals rank him as the leader among all active major league players.
