Long-Rumored Orioles Target Predicted to Land With St. Louis Cardinals This Year

The prolonged speculation surrounding the Baltimore Orioles’ potential acquisition of a star player appears to be drawing to a close sometime this year. As the offseason began, much of the conversation revolved around whether the Orioles could secure a top-tier pitcher to bolster their rotation.

2023 Orioles vs. projections: Kyle Bradish (poll) - Camden Chat

Kyle Bradish emerged as a promising prospect, finishing fourth in AL Cy Young voting in just his second MLB season. Meanwhile, Grayson Rodriguez showed improvement as the year progressed, rebounding from a shaky start.

However, during the playoffs, the Orioles’ rotation faltered, contributing significantly to their sweep. With the Chicago White Sox signaling a rebuild, their ace Dylan Cease appeared to be a prime target for Baltimore.

Cease, a standout pitcher with two years remaining on his contract, was highly coveted. Yet, the White Sox’s steep asking price proved prohibitive. Consequently, the Orioles pivoted and secured former NL Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes instead.

Despite this, it’s probable that Chicago will entertain offers for Cease at the trade deadline. Should this materialize, the Orioles could once again find themselves in the mix as potential suitors.
