Jayden Daniels Explains Unselfish Reason for Not Testing at NFL Combine

In 2023, the main focus on LSU was on quarterback Jayden Daniels. Despite the high expectations placed on him – with LSU starting the year ranked fifth, their highest preseason ranking since 2016 – the team couldn’t progress further after winning the SEC West in 2022. Nevertheless, Daniels had a breakout season and clinched the Heisman Trophy with one of the most impressive statistical performances in college football history. His exceptional performance significantly boosted his prospects for the NFL draft. When asked on Friday why he chose not to participate in on-field activities at the NFL scouting combine, he explained to reporters that he wanted to spotlight his teammates at LSU during their upcoming pro day.

“They’ve worked so hard to get their opportunity in front of everybody and go out there and showcase what they can do,” Daniels said. “It wasn’t about me, it was about my teammates.”

On March 27 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Daniels and his fellow Tigers will display their abilities at LSU’s pro day. Daniels is anticipated to be among the top selections in the 2024 NFL draft, recognized as one of the most captivating quarterback prospects, alongside USC’s Caleb Williams and North Carolina’s Drake Maye.
