Warriors’ Joe Lacob breaks silence on Steve Kerr extension

The Golden State Warriors and their head coach Steve Kerr finalized a contract extension worth $35 million over two years last week. The team officially confirmed the agreement on Tuesday, ensuring Kerr’s tenure with the organization until the 2025-26 season. Before the game against the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, Kerr had amassed a remarkable record of 502 wins and 265 losses since joining the team in 2014. Under his leadership, the Warriors have clinched four NBA championships and six Western Conference titles. Owner Joe Lacob had no hesitation in extending Kerr’s contract, considering it an obvious choice.

Lacob expressed his excitement about Coach Kerr’s continued leadership in a team press release, highlighting the significance of his well-deserved contract extension. Kerr’s pivotal role in the team’s decade-long success, which few coaches in NBA history have matched, was underscored. His remarkable track record as both a player and a coach, coupled with his exceptional management skills and personal integrity, was praised as exemplary. Lacob emphasized Kerr’s championship pedigree and affirmed him as the ideal leader for the team.

Kerr, honored as the NBA Coach of the Year for the 2015-16 season, has steered the Warriors to five of their most successful seasons in franchise history, spanning their eras as the Philadelphia and San Francisco Warriors. His recognition as one of the 15 greatest coaches in NBA history during the league’s 75th anniversary season further solidifies his legacy.

Despite coaching on an expiring contract, Kerr’s loyalty to the Warriors was unwavering, with no consideration given to coaching elsewhere.
