‘Huge boost’ Auburn reportedly confirm another top signing

The Auburn Tigers secured a victory not only over Texas A&M but also over Notre Dame and the other 29 institutions vying for Devin Williams, a highly sought-after 4-star cornerback prospect from Georgia. Williams announced his commitment to Hugh Freeze and the Tigers on Monday. Despite receiving offers from prestigious programs such as Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, and Ohio State, among others, Williams ultimately chose Auburn. He is ranked by 247Sports as the 14th-best cornerback prospect and the 18th-ranked overall prospect in the 2025 class. Williams made his decision after attending Auburn’s Junior Day on Feb. 3, marking his final visit before committing. According to Steve Wiltfong, 247Sports’ director of recruiting, Williams had three other visits scheduled as of Feb. 15: one to Auburn on March 16, one to Texas A&M on March 30, and one to Notre Dame on April 3.

However, as evidenced by his commitment on Monday, Williams didn’t want to wait any longer. It’s uncertain whether he will still follow through with the planned visits to Texas A&M and Notre Dame.

Before making his commitment, Williams had expressed his admiration for Auburn and the strong connections he was forming with the Tigers’ secondary coach, Wesley McGriff, and the newly appointed co-defensive coordinator, Charles Kelly.

“I’m really impressed with the direction Auburn is heading,” Williams shared with Wiltfong. “I’ve had significant interaction with Coach McGriff and Coach Kelly. Coach McGriff and I communicate twice a week and have developed a strong bond. Auburn isn’t backing down from competition! Coach Freeze and his team are actively pursuing the top recruits in my class, embracing the mentality of ‘iron sharpens iron.’ I appreciate that approach! Additionally, Coach McGriff has assured me of his commitment to Auburn, which is a major factor for me.”

With Williams onboard, Auburn now boasts its ninth commitment for the 2025 class, marking the first addition from a defensive back.

As of Monday evening, following Williams’ commitment, Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class has climbed to the seventh position nationally in rankings.
