Ex-Yankees Star Has Met With Red Sox About Possible Signing

A former member of the New York Yankees might join their top rival. As free agency continues, there are still notable players available, including Jordan Montgomery, a former Yankees pitcher who has garnered attention this offseason following his strong performances with the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers in 2023.

Montgomery was traded to St. Louis in 2022 and has since excelled, particularly with Texas, contributing to their journey to the World Series. Now, he’s exploring his next team and reportedly held discussions with the Boston Red Sox regarding a potential contract, as reported by ESPN’s Buster Olney.

Jordan Montgomery Gives The Rangers A Fighting Chance In The ALCS

“Recently, the Red Sox conducted a Zoom meeting with Jordan Montgomery,” Olney revealed. “His addition would bolster their 2024 rotation and, if secured on a long-term deal, could solidify their pitching staff. They seem financially equipped to make this move.”

While Montgomery has attracted interest from several teams, the Red Sox appear as one of the leading contenders. Although there’s been talk of a possible return to New York, it seems less probable at this stage.

At 31, Montgomery may not secure the hefty contract he once anticipated, but a deal seems imminent. With Boston in dire need of pitching improvements, Montgomery emerges as a viable option to bolster their starting rotation.
