Raptors are named as potential draft suitor for fantastic player

NBA insider Shams Charania from The Athletic provided an intriguing update this week regarding the draft prospects of Bronny James. During his appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Charania singled out a specific Eastern Conference team that seems to be considering the possibility of drafting the 19-year-old USC freshman – the Toronto Raptors. Charania indicated that the Raptors are currently in the process of “scouting” Bronny.

Despite Bronny’s modest performance, averaging 5.7 points per game with shooting splits of 37/28/61 for USC this season, he is not generating significant interest based on his individual skills. Instead, the interest revolves around the potential to also acquire his father, LeBron James, by drafting him. In essence, teams like the Raptors, engaged in scouting Bronny, may be expressing interest in forming a father-son duo with the James family.

This development adds an intriguing twist, especially considering LeBron’s history of dominating the Raptors in the playoffs during his Eastern Conference tenure. LeBron, playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, eliminated Toronto in three consecutive years from 2016-18. It wasn’t until LeBron moved to the Los Angeles Lakers that the Raptors secured their first franchise title in 2019.

While we recently learned about the Lakers’ stance on drafting Bronny, the Raptors, holding picks at Nos. 6, 17, and 31 in this year’s draft, seem to be exploring the possibility as well.
