Latest: Yankees Are Reportedly Showing ‘Serious Interest’ In Signing Ex-Padres Star

It appears that the Yankees have their eyes on acquiring the ex-Padres standout.

Despite his former affiliation with San Diego, Blake Snell, a former Padres star and the recipient of the 2023 National League Cy Young Award, remains without a team. His search for a lucrative contract this offseason has yet to yield results.

Yankees Offer Blake Snell New $150 Million Deal: Insider

The current free agent market has been unexpectedly slow-moving, leaving notable players still unsigned. Snell stands out as one of the premier options available, with reports indicating strong interest from at least one team, namely the New York Yankees, as per USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

According to Nightengale, despite shifting their focus to Marcus Stroman, the New York Yankees remain keenly interested in signing Blake Snell. They’re observing whether Snell’s desired contract terms might become more favorable for a long-term deal or if he’d consider a shorter contract with a higher annual salary, potentially exceeding $35 million.

Snell showcased his talent by leading the National League with an impressive 2.25 ERA over 32 starts with the San Diego Padres last season. Despite his successful stint with the Padres over the past three years, it appears likely that he’ll be donning a different uniform in 2024.

New York has been making headlines since the end of the 2023 season with a series of significant moves. The Yankees kicked off the offseason with a blockbuster trade with San Diego, acquiring superstar slugger Juan Soto. However, it seems there’s a possibility that Snell won’t be the only former Padre joining the Yankees in the upcoming season.
