Huge boost for Royals as they sign another MLB player to bolster squad depth

Writer Andrew Parker reports that the Kansas City Royals have inked infielder Josh Lester to a minor league contract. A graduate of Mizzou, Lester has seen action in 13 Major League games throughout his career with the Tigers and Orioles. Last season, while playing in Triple-A with Norfolk, he posted a batting line of .257/.307/.475 and smacked 23 home runs across 110 games.

Originally drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 13th round from Mizzou back in 2015, Lester made his Major League debut with them in 2022. After the season’s end, he was removed from the roster and subsequently picked up by the Orioles for the 2023 season. Although he primarily played in Triple-A during that time, he did have a brief stint with the big league club, going 4-for-22.

Lester, a 29-year-old southpaw hitter, is versatile, capable of playing first and third base, with some experience in corner outfield positions. His addition is expected to bolster the Omaha Storm Chasers’ lineup and offer depth should the Royals require an additional corner infielder or bench bat.
