Antonio Pierce Explains Hatred of the Chiefs

It’s common knowledge that there’s no love lost between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs. These AFC West adversaries frequently engage in intense matchups, with the Raiders always aiming to challenge the reigning Super Bowl champions. Head coach Antonio Pierce hasn’t shied away from expressing his animosity towards the Chiefs. In a recent episode of defensive end Maxx Crosby’s podcast, The Rush with Maxx Crosby, Pierce discussed his team’s upset victory over the Chiefs on Christmas Day, emphasizing the added motivation stemming from the Chiefs’ use of the Raiders’ locker room during Super Bowl LVIII.

“It’s challenging because we’re also barred from entering their building,” Pierce remarked. “But you know what? It serves as motivation. Who was the last team to defeat them? Can anyone in the audience tell me?” Pierce then encouraged the live audience to join in a “RAIDERS” chant as the answer to his rhetorical question.

“As I told them, we’ll have another shot at them. They’ll have to face us again, and we’ll have to face them. We’ve already shown how it’s done. These guys understand what it takes, especially on a day like that – we were the main event. We played at 10 o’clock, their time, 12 o’clock. There was no NBA, no LeBron. Everyone had their eyes on the Raiders versus the Chiefs.”

Pierce went into detail about how he instilled that animosity towards the Chiefs within his team. “Maxx knows exactly how we built up that week, how I fueled that week with hatred for the color red. We saw red, we despised it. It was at that level. There’s a distinction between mere dislike and genuine hatred.”

“There’s a deep-seated hatred for the Chiefs. You have to truly dislike and hate this particular team. We may be cordial in the offseason; we’ll exchange pleasantries when we meet in places like this, but once we step onto the field, it’s game on.”
