Breaking News: Just in Georgia football lands another star from transfer portal

Georgia football has secured another tight end from California, marking the first since Brock Bowers, but this time through the transfer portal.

Benjamin Yurosek, formerly with Stanford, declared his transfer to Georgia on February 9, with ESPN Senior Writer Pete Thamel sharing the news on Instagram. Yurosek, ranked as the sixth-best tight end and 101st-best prospect in the transfer portal by 247Sports, spent four seasons with Stanford, experiencing the most success in his second and third years.

During his tenure, Yurosek earned All-Pac-12 second-team honors as a junior and first-team honors as a sophomore, also clinching awards for outstanding sophomore and notable game performances. Hindered by an upper-body injury in his recent season, Yurosek’s performance was limited, with just 16 receptions, 239 yards, and one touchdown. His standout season was in 2021, recording 43 catches, 658 yards, and three touchdowns.

With 1,342 receiving yards and five touchdowns overall, Yurosek’s strength lies in his pass-catching rather than blocking. Nonetheless, his arrival coincides with the departure of Bowers, potentially filling a crucial role for the team. Competing for playing time with returnees Oscar Delp, Lawson Luckie, and Pearce Spurlin, Yurosek’s tenure with the Bulldogs will be brief, given his one remaining year of eligibility. However, he aims to elevate his NFL Draft prospects, a goal that previous Georgia tight ends have successfully achieved.

“Obviously Georgia has the best of both worlds,” Yurosek said to Thamel. “They have big-time football and the use of tight ends.”
